Aluminums Wind Chime
The sound of aluminums wind chime and how it creates a relaxing and calming effect.
Aluminum wind chimes are the most popular type of wind chime. They are made from aluminum, which is a soft metal that doesn't conduct electricity or sound very well. However, if you place your hand or ear near an aluminum tube while it's in motion, you will hear the high frequency harmonics created by the motion of the air inside the tube. This is known as "chime" because it sounds like a bell ringing.
Aluminum wind chimes have different pitches because of their length and thickness (the diameter). The longer the tube, the lower the pitch; conversely, a short tube has a higher pitch. The thicker the tube wall, the lower the pitch will be; conversely, a thinner wall has a higher pitch.
When I was 6 years old, my mother bought me an aluminum tube for Christmas. It was about 18 inches long with an 8-inch diameter at one end and 7-inch diameter at the other end. It contained about 8 pieces of thin steel tubing inside it: 16 mm (0.6 inches) long pieces connecting to each other.
